City pull out of Kaká chase

From the official site:

Manchester City has terminated its discussions with AC Milan over the possible transfer of the player Kaka.

Following a meeting in Milan today, the Club felt that it was unlikely that the two parties could reach common ground for an agreement.

The discussions reached only a preliminary stage and the player was not involved at any time. No commercial terms were framed.

Commenting on the situation, Garry Cook stated: "Whilst Manchester City Football Club has an obvious interest in world class players of the quality of Kaka, we owe it to our fans that such a transfer must work on every level; commercially, financially, in terms of results on the field and within Manchester City's broader community."

Berlusconi is made out to look like a hero and this can only look good in the next election to win more votes. He had it planned i bet.

Best thing all round, he didnt want to play for us, he cost too much money and we would never have had any respect as a club if we won anything by buying him

I'd just like to say that you've done a fantastic job over the chaos of the last few weeks - thanks for keeping us all updated with a Manchester City focused but (I believe) reasonably balanced and non-jingoistic point of view. Between you and Danny's blog I think we've not missed out on much!

It's sort of a shame this Kaka thing didn't work out, but it has let the world know we're serious, and I never really believed it would come off anyway. It's all good fun, and part of the pantomime, isn't it?

My thoughts on what the issues preventing Kaka's transfer could be at http://gavhudson.co.uk :)

Yeah well done on keeping us updated throughout. Great blog and all articles are well written and informative. Good times ahead.

P.s. any news on a new solid central defender? I think Danel Van Buyten would be a good buy, he looked quality 4 years ago and is only 30.

Berlusconi milked this one for all it was worth and unfortunately City and ADUG played right into his hands. Even if it comes out tomorrow that the transfer offer was L60 million and that Kaka's wages were never discussed, everyone will only remember the L107 million figure and the L500 million per week nonsense. The media will take their brush and continue to paint a nice little picture of city as the cartoon villain. Particularly loved David "its about trophies"Beckham comments to the Italian press. That he said it with a straight face shows he has considerable acting talent. LA truly was the right move for him. I was hoping we were cleverly using this saga as a trojan horse to sign players on the quiet. De Jong signing gave me hope as there was little argument over money. City said were not going to be held for ransom but it certainly looks the case here. We should have pulled the plug the minute AC Milan stalled on letting us talk to Kaka directly. Lets hope Cook and ADUG learned a lesson. in the meantime I remain optimistic as Sparky finally looks like he's getting it right tactically on the field. He made some gutsy decisions against Wigan and like him or not he should be applauded when he gets it right.
