Iniesta?

This News of the World exclusive is surely rubbish:

The Barcelona midfielder is thought to be untouchable at the Nou Camp but City's billionaire Arab owners fancy their chances of bringing him to Eastlands...

That means City will have to smash their £32million transfer record to persuade the Catalan club to allow the Spain international to talk terms.

Really? I struggle to believe this at all. I can see no reason whatsoever why Iniesta would want to leave Barcelona for City, other than the most vulgar one. He's currently playing in a starring role in a groundbreaking Barcelona season, and whatever they win this year they will surely be in the hunt for the same trophies again in 2009/10. Asking the 24 year old cantera graduate to leave the side he has grown up playing for - it just couldn't work. Didn't we learn with Kaká that it's worth discriminating between those targets who are likely to take our money and those who are not?

This is certainly something I would like to believe is true, sadly I don't.

This guy is different class and is playing for a team that I would say is the best in the world at the moment, so why would he come to us, unless he wasn't wanted at Barca.

We know that Brca want Fabregas back and although he isn't as good as Iniesta, once these clubs set their mind on a player, they normally puruse them. Iniesta could move on to fund Fabregas deal, or that would be the only reasonable possibility.

I won't hold my breath though, I can't see this being true.

The NotW knows less about what Citys owners fancy than I know about ballet dancing. Total rubbish - hope City take the bastards to court.

I think the NOTW story is true. "Iniesta is the latest superstar name to appear on Manchester City's wanted list" it says.

Of course he's on the list of players that City want and can afford. He's on there with a hundred others. The list he's not on, though, is the list of players that are going to join. After yesterday's antics, that list has shrunk once again.
