Sporting tie up suggested

Danny flags up a report in The Guardian about a potential deal with Sporting Lisbon, taking their best young players to City:

City have moved in after learning that United's arrangement with Sporting had expired and that relations between Old Trafford and the Estádio José Alvalade have never been fully repaired since the clubs fell out two years ago over the Portugal international Miguel Veloso.

Luís Vicente, a Portuguese lawyer who represents Figo, has been working on a deal which should be announced in the next few weeks and will see the world's most financially endowed club moving ahead of the Premier League champions when it comes to cherry-picking some of Portuguese football's brightest young players.

It's very clear that the main policy of the club is to become like Arsenal - buying the best young teenagers and bringing them through. I can't see it working. Good on Sporting, though - they've clearly forgiven us for sending them Felipe Caicedo on loan.

Give Caceido a break. He may not be our future but he's only 21 and he's not that bad. Did okay for us in a transitional team, often playing on his own up front. Certainly seen a lot worse players in a blue shirt!

I think it was just a little joke Stan. Jack knows as well as the rest of us that Big Fil C is the new Ferenc Puskas.

Ha ha, new Emile Heskey more like, but the kid did a job for us when we were short of options up front.

I think it's naive to dismiss city having a chance of developing youth talent for the future successfully!

I think comparisons with arsenal are unnecessary.. but Wenger also had to make bigger signings to bring his team to a top level and then integrate youth players into that system!

We already have a decent academy, with good results and under mancini we have seen others catch a break, mancini the man at the helm at inter with the likes of balotelli and santon,
