Conn on the 4-0

The Guardian's David Conn, who has eclipsed Colin Shindler as the best chronicler of being a Manchester City fan in the national press, has a touching article about his experience of the 4-0 win over Manchester United in 1975 - on our way to our last piece of silverware. Aside from the nice story, he notes that this game could be a real turning point for the clubs' fortunes:

This semi-final, whatever Sir Alex Ferguson or Gary Neville say, does mark a moment of potential historical change. City, 30 years since Allison's return, look finally to be seriously on the rise.United, indomitable Premier League and European champions in the 90s and noughties, appear to be wobbling. As this is turbo-commercialised English football in the 2010s, City's sudden ability to compete is courtesy of the very un-City-like fortune of £400m (so far) poured in by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan, whose Abu Dhabi childhood was probably a little different from mine.

Do read the whole thing.

I voted for Ali benarbia. Despite, having some cracking players in that list, I don't believe we realised how lucky we were to see him play. It's a shame he came at the end of his career. Imagine our side now, with someone of his ability to see a pass, and create!

I voted for Doyle. Tonight we'll need a quality centre half to organise our makeshift back 4.

Plus he hated the rags so I suspect he'd enjoy a nibble at Rooney or Owen's ankles.
