I've got no evidence for this, but I've just got a feeling that we won't go any higher than the £19m bid for Joleon Lescott.
It's in our interests not to meet every asking price, and to show that we won't be messed around. And it seems like we'd have to go to £23m+ to land Lescott. Which may be proportionally the most exaggerated fee yet.
It's just a hunch.

I hope you're right. Lescott is an average central defender whose main asset is a knack for scoring goals. Kompany, Onuoha, Toure are all superior. If we want someone with a bit more grit, then Hangeland for £15m.
I think the only way this deal will go forward is if Lescott himself asks for a move. If he doesn't then I agree, I don't think we will up our bid. We can't be seen to being held to ransom by other clubs. If we let Everton fleece us for Lescott every other club will do the same!
Lescott is not an average defender. He is solid and would be an immediate first team starter with Toure. He is strong in the air and would be an invaluable asset at set pieces both in his own box and the opposition box. Does it matter if he costs £23 mill if the Arabs are prepared to pay it? Hangeland has had one good season and is too one dimensional.
I think Lescott is an excellent defender and would have preferred him to Toure. However, I still think Toure is a good player and don't think we need both. Can't bid higher for Lescott or else every club will just start rejecting our bids until we end up paying 10mil over the odds. I'd be happy now with what we've got - Kompany, Toure and Onouha, with Dunne fourth choice. The biggest loss of not getting Terry was that we still don't have a true leader. I'd vote Barry though or Given.
There us also the fact lescott provides coverage fir left back as well...
I think it's clear that Mark Hughes is overvaluing Premier League experience. £20m+ for Lescott? Has he even heard of Bruno Alves?
