Seven and a half hours remaining: Villa and Gomez?

Dr Sulaiman al-Fahim said that there were bids for one player in England and two in Europe.

We all know about Dimitar Berbatov by now, but the BBC thinks it has the names of the two players based in Europe we're after: Valencia's David Villa, and Stuttgart's Mario Gomez.

Villa has just signed a new deal at Valencia keeping him there until 2014, after a €47million from Real Madrid. So I'm not sure how likely it is that we could get him.

Gomez was the second top scorer in Bundesliga last season, with 19 goals. He didn't have a great European Championship, but Hughes has a famously good track record with signings from the Bundesliga: first Santa Cruz, then Samba and now Kompany.

And given that Berbatov is now being reported as being with Alex Ferguson at United's training ground, we may have to focus on other targets.

UPDATE 17.11 Sky Sports News are just reporting that City have made bids for Villa and Gomez. Apparently this has come from Dr al-Fahim himself.
