Hughes says Sturridge set to leave

Bad news in the Mail:
Hughes said: 'We put in another offer but that was declined so we won't be going back. We've not got much headroom to negotiate and I'm disappointed.'
This is a real shame. There is part of me that thinks that there's no point in being the richest club in the world if you can't afford to keep your best young players. But then you read the figures he's allegedly asking for, and you think of how many goals he's ever scored for us, and it does turn you off a bit. I'm just worried he's going to turn into a top quality footballer for another club.

We could lose a player asking for way to much money, or in other words we could lose a money motivated totally above his station young lad.

I will get over it if he leaves, I would love him to stay though. The club have moulded him into the player he is and if he leaves because he wants to much money after being so well looked after by City, then I will be glad to see the back of him.

The irony in all of this is that he been boasting City have the best Academy and there are more graduates to come. We have seen this kind of thing before with Barton and Etuhu (remember the next Veira?).

Being the richest club in the World isn't about having no salary structure at all because all that does is breed dissent and dissatisfaction.

If another club is going to sign him they are going to have to pay him silly money. What will that do their salary structure? Screw it up and team morale with it.

We are now starting to see the club being run on sensible business lines. The reduced tickets for the Hamburg game being the start of that process.

He'll sign. On his few appearances this season he's been backed by the best midfield in the premiership - and he still hasn't done too well. 4 goals in all competitions? Right...

I would much rather become a good player than a good prospect before I start making demands. Perhaps he's getting wrong advice from uncle Dean?

I really think this could bite him on the ass especially if he goes to Aston Villa or Chelsea, where he'd still be third or fourth in the pecking order. Blackburn were rumored to have wanted him in January but would he be happy there even in the starting eleven?

My larger concern is how much influence his agent is having in the negotiations. While I have no doubt Sturridge needs to submerge his ego a wee bit I have a sneaking suspicion his agent is upping the ante more than is needed and that City are trying to call his bluff. Maybe he should consider what happened to SWP at Chelsea before leaving.
City will have no argument from me if they make a "take or leave it" offer.

more fool danny sturridge, hang is head in shame when he leaves the club. The club has worked hard to bring him through the system, he is on the edge of a premier league 1st team, wit vast wealth and prospects, but obviously big time charlie wants lots of cash or is on his way out.

this type of atttitude leaves sour taste in fans mouths, don't expect a warm welcome on your return...if you ever make one!

Yeah I don't like booing former players - I got some funny looks for clapping Distin at the Portsmouth games this year - but I think a bad reception is fully deserved for Sturridge if he leaves.

PS Why did some people boo Corluka this year? Makes no sense...

Makes no sense to boo Corluka? Of course it does, he engineered a move to Spurs a club that is on our level just so he could be with his mate.

I'm not sure that's true Gary. As I remember it, he never asked to be sold - it was something done just because we needed the money and Hughes thought he could get someone better. He only put his transfer request after he realised that the club wanted to sell him.

corluka wanted to join modric his best mate.

But He still stood up and took a quality pen for us in europe, when he knew he was on his way out.

Players should leave with grace, sturridge has acted with anything but...

shame!

I'm with WiganBlue. He'll sign. He won't get more money elsewhere, whoever signs him. City have done the right thing in giving him a final offer.

I'd make him an offer based on him reaching his potential: every so many goals or appearances, his pay increases. If he's as good as he thinks, he'll have no problem. The boy still needs incentives.

Sturridge cultivated a youth development with an ego that exceeded his ability. Greedy and lazy in training found out in match play.
Disliked by collegues as a non team player.
Good bye and good riddance if you do not want to wear the shirt we do not want you.
