Manchester City and Liverpool are among five leading clubs who have agreed to pay the £25 million needed to sign Carlos Tévez this summer amid growing uncertainty over the Argentina striker’s future at Manchester United, The Times has learnt.
If this is true, it's probably net bad news. The limiting factor in our attempts to sign Tévez was never really going to be our ability to match Joorabchian's asking price, but rather the player's willingness to come to City ahead of other, more attractive options. If we can't outbid Liverpool in terms of fee we'll have to hope that either we offer him ludicrously high wages, or that Rafael Benítez decides to tell him he won't be first choice. Both of which are unlikely. This must make Liverpool favourites.

I dont believe Liverpool can meet the asking price, words are cheap and the mickeys are strapped for hard cash.
Bluffers and blaggers to the end lets see what cash on the table can do.
I think there are a 5 reasons why Tevez might choose us over Liverpool:
1) At Liverpool, with Gerrard and Torres and Rafa's rotation system, there's no guarantee that Tevez would be a regular starter at Liverpool... and one reason he's unhappy at man u is his lack of first-team opportunities.
2) In order to clinch the deal I am sure that City would guarantee Tevez that he would be the star striker. They would massage his ego and pretty much assure him of a starting spot when fit.
3) We would pay his better wages than anyone else.
4) Tevez has a great relationship with the man u fans... that might already rule out both Liverpool and us as potential employers. However, I reckon it would cause much more resentment amongst man u fans and players if Tevez went to Liverpool who are seen as realistic rivals rather than City. Thus if he is determined to stay in England, he might be inclined to join us over Liverpool.
5) Joorabchian has considerable influence over Tevez and it is reported that Mr J already has a good relationship with City. He has also said that *ambition* and not Champions League football is a pre-requisite for Tevez (although such a comment might just be a ploy to force man utd's hand by suggesting that money bags City are interested). With the kind of money we're likely to spend, there aren't many clubs as ambitious as us at the moment.
I always thought the asking price was £35m fo other clubs, just £25m for Utd following their £10m payment for the loan deal. Can someone correct me where I'm wrong?
Is it basically a total of £25m for any club, except Utd for whom it's going to add up to £35? Will make a nice change for us, with our new-found wealth normally driving costs up! :)
Re Tevez, I read somewheres that in fact United paid 4 Million per loan year or 8 Million total, but counting other expenses such as legalities re contract, etc, it amounted to 12 Million in all. BUT the figure bandies about was 32 Million, so if 10 Million for 2 loan years, the extra 2 million is the Registration Fee that Kia Joorabchian had to pay West Ham to get that title in his hands. And he wants United to reimburse him this paid fee. BUT the MAIN HURDLE was this ECONOMIC RIGHTS contract that Tevez signed for which anything that Tevez makes, not only salary, also image ^ marketing rights, KIA gets good piece out of it. And 100% of transfer fee he pockets alone. United INSISTED that IF they signed Tevez, they would OWN him 100%, so need to clear up this ER contract implication. ANOTHER hurdle was the salary Tevez wanted, up from 80,000 pounds per week to 120,000 same as Rooney AND a 5-year contract after which Tevez retires. So, NO resale value possible. Last United position was fee around 20 Million, same salarty but only 3 year term. But Gills supposedly okayed 25 Millions now, so I guess salary terms are the hurdle, else SIGNED. Real offered Tevez 140,000 pounds per week and Liverpool similarly. Bottom line, all about MONEY! MORE than the 32 Million mentioned.
