Some of the players might still be in South Africa on the fifth. It wouldn't take too many surprises for a Holland v England semi-final to take place Cape Town on 6 July - where Gareth Barry would surely get Nigel de Jong booked with some of his subtle performance art. Less likely is an all South American semi final the next day in Durban, pitting Carlos Tévez against Roque Santa Cruz.
But even if these semi finals don't happen the World Cup will take a decent bite out of pre-season for some of our players.
