'Hahahaha! No.'

Barcelona right back Dani Alves has done a Guardian 'Small Talk' interview with Sid Lowe, where he was asked his opinions on English football:

So, who is your favourite English football team? [In English] Is a good question … in this moment Manchester …

You mean City, right? That's the one. Hahahaha! No. Manchester United.

To be honest this is pretty funny. The great thing is that is not even the most brutal put down we've got from a Brazilian right back this season - remember this from Maicon's agent Antonio Caliendo:

'If the likes of Real or United knock on the door then you consider the eventual offers - but we are talking about a top player who is fighting for the league title, the Champions League, the best player in his role, what would he be doing at City? I think it would be unthinkable, let's not joke about it.'

Ouch.

We have to remember that it was not so long ago that most continental players did not even know we existed. We have come a long way in a short time that we are now getting linked with the top players and there is so much more awareness of our potential and that we are quickly closing the gap to the top teams.

We should feel complimented by these rather than insulted. In the next couple of years I expect to see these kind of comments disappear.

Wonder if Maicon will still say that if we come in for him this summer, with either Jose or Mancio in charge.

I suspect not.

Things are changing. These things aren't nice, but they won't last. We are already on our way, and will be back at the top table in very short order.

Bollocks to the pair of 'em.

Neither are fit to lace Ned's boots!

I'd probably be a little concerned by these comments if these were players we desperately needed but the fact is filling the right back slot is not an immediate priority. Maicon is absolutely a world class right back but what we desperately need is world class creative midfielder or least one of international class. If midfielders in the mould of say Xavi, Iniesta, or Wesley Sneijder start slagging us off then I'll be concerned.

I know..lets make a list of Brazilians that have taken the Premier league by storm....anyone got a stamp we can write on?

Who needs Alves or Maicon...there are more suitable players with the right attitude out there. Sick of crap Brazilians who cant hack it. Rant over

Well of course we're not his favourites. Last year we humiliated them at the Noucamp, whereas they rolled over Utd in the Champs League. Everyone loves a team that's easy to beat...
