World Cup watch

As most of you will know, the World Cup starts tomorrow and I will do my best to keep everyone in touch with the progress of City players past and present. Of the 736 players going, here are the ones to watch out for:

Group A

Nicolas Anelka

Group B

Carlos Tévez
Dickson Etuhu
Georgios Samaras

Group C

David James
Gareth Barry
Shaun Wright-Phillips
Joe Hart
DaMarcus Beasley
Djamel Abdoun

Group D

Jérôme Boateng

Group E

Nigel de Jong

Group F

Roque Santa Cruz
Chris Killen
Vladimir Weiss

Group G

Elano
Robinho
Kolo Touré

Group H

Gelson Fernandes

Plus of course Ivory Coast who are managed by Sven-Göran Eriksson.

Some will get more attention than others. Anelka never really felt ours even when he was a Manchester City player, even less so six years after his departure (although he has scored more goals for City than for any other club). Whereas I still love some as much as ever - Elano especially. Stay tuned.

Thank you for putting together this list. My friend and I were talking about this a couple of days ago.

You've missed a few: Milner, Torres, Silva, Toure Jnr, Ozil, Hamsik, Van de Weil, Subotic, Maicon, Gourcuff, etc., etc, blah, blah
