Boateng makes World Cup debut

MCFC new boy Jérôme Boateng got his first World Cup outing last night in Germany's 1-0 win over Ghana. He came in for Holger Badstuber to start at left-back, one of a number of roles he might perform in for City.

He played 73 minutes before coming off for Marcell Jansen, but he looked very strong, quick and while not necessarily a natural left-back he certainly did his job well. He doesn't have the attacking thrust of Wayne Bridge but I'm sure he would make fewer errors.

Germany won 1-0, the goal coming from Mesut Özil, who looks like someone who was told at the start of the summer that only City were really in for him and so is desperately trying to play his way out of our hands and towards a more prestigious club.
