Injury update

Hughes speaking in the M.E.N. about RSC:
"Roque went to a specialist yesterday and he was really pleased with his progress," said manager Mark Hughes.

" We are talking about two to three weeks for him. I don't like to put games as a target because it's difficult to predict but I imagine he will be available round about the time of the United game or West Ham after that."
And Vincent Kompany:
"The surgeon who did the operation on Vinny is very pleased," said Hughes.

"Fitness-wise there is no problem because he is a good, dedicated pro, and as soon as he gets the green light he will be back very, very quickly. There is a little way to go but he is progressing really well."
I got tickets this morning for Crystal Palace on Thursday and was hoping to see Roque Santa Cruz's debut but it looks like he won't be back in time. Will have to make do with Bellamy and Tévez instead. I do fear for Kompany though: neither Onuoha nor de Jong started at Ewood Park, and Kompany is less good than either of those two in their respective positions.

Am I alone in thinking Kompany is better than de Jong?

No, I do and so do all of my mates.

de jong is better than kompany for me, de jong is a brilliant player in his position, and shows it by being first choice for holland

The positive thing is that both a good players. We now have quality competing for place just about everywhere on the park. Hughes will use both of them situationally to match up against particular opposition.

For me , Kompany is best at Centre Half. Anyone agree better than Lescott??

Hard to tell because VK only played four or five times at centre back last year whereas Lescott has played there for years. But VK's got all the attributes to be a genuinely top class centre back.

Isn't CB Vk's natural and original starting position?

DeJong is a world class defensive midfielder in the Makelele / Mascherano role - breaking up play, taking ball from defence and linking with midfield. He is very strong on the ball and can distribute to Barry on left and Ireland on right in front of him.

Kompany is a very valuable utility player because he can cover so many positions and should always be given lots of fist team starts because of that. He can play right centre back alongside Nedum (or Lescott/Upson/or whoever we sign for left CB), he can play defensive midfield and he use his height in attacking midfield on right.

Kompany came to the fore as an 18 year old playing as a centerback for Anderlecht.I'm pretty sure most of his caps for Belgium are from playing in dentral defense as well.

Wouldn't Belgium play Vermaelen and Van Buyten in central defence?

With Kompany and Fellaini in midfield, that's a decent quartet. I hear the striker Mpenza can play a bit too.
