Bassong, banned for the first two games of Newcastle's Championship campaign with a suspension carried over from last season, believes working for Redknapp would help his development.
City's financial muscle could yet come into play but there is a danger they could miss out on all their targets.
Everton are determined to make Joleon Lescott's departure difficult, Sylvain Distin would prefer to play regularly with Aston Villa while Bassong has put a switch to London ahead of Manchester at this stage.
I wonder whether potential difficulties with signing Bassong and Distin will induce us to increase our bid for Lescott.
I'm getting rather bored of this now.

Let brown envelope 'arry have Bassong. I rate him slightly below Tal Ben Haim about championship class.
poor man citeh!! not many money grabbing players left to try and pay over the top wages to lol i mean come on adebayor what a joke!! RSC is constantly injured aswell!! lets hope you will do the right thing and sign bentley for about 50m coz he is a mark hughes player and if you can pay that sort of money for the tall gooner bloke then bentley will be a bargain, spurs WILL finish above you again this coming season as we always do, COYS!!!
Interesting to see how BITTER some fans have become. Interesting also to observe their semi literate ramblings.Something akin to text speak on steroids. Still all that juvenile adrenalin has to be channelled somewhere.
The fact that 'appy 'arry wanted to sign RSC seems to evaded this individuals limited attention span.
As for paying an exorbitant amount for "the tall gooner", wasn't it Spuds that set the standard.
I have just watched, Part 1 of the interview with Brian Marwood, on the club website.
Its the first time I have heard him speak and I have to say, I was very impressed.
As he says, "talks cheap", now is the time to see it happen.
Text speak on steroids! Well said.
as you stated arry wanted to buy RSC, all spurs fans have been wanting huntelaar, me personally i got what i wanted coz we signed crouch, yes not the best striker in the world but can do a hell of a lot on a football pith both attacking and defending so good enough for me, as for setting the standard how is that? please explain if you are capable, our record signing remains at 16.75m (modric) and our highest earner is on 70,000 a week which is almost peanuts in todays world of football, we sell at a high price but then so we should as we do have a lot of talent in our squad, just a shame they cant perform as a team lol, the only reason these players have signed for man city is purely for financial reasons not the "oh they are a club that are really going somewhere" they got no history or tradition but i do admit it raises a smile to my face knowing that you will be above man utd for a long time to come in the next few years lol, hughes is shit manager tho.
Keeole, I know you're a Spurs fan and therefore blinkered like a horse with the spooks but to dismiss Adebayor as a joke shows you up. This is Africa's current player of the year, voted that honour ahead of Eto'o, Essien, Kanoute, Drogba and of course the great Assou-Ekotto.
he is NOT a good player!! he misses more than he scores and thats a fact!! tevez is 10 times the striker adebayor is, you believing he is that good is actually showing you up my friend, i know who i would rather in my team out of him or eto'o and it wont be the lanky money grabbing cant score unless i had 15 chances 1st gooner!!
