Hughes: Hart to stay

Mark Hughes has said that Joe Hart is staying at City:
"We felt it was important for him to continue to develop and improve.

"He wasn't going to do that outside the first-team here, so we decided the best course of action was to let him get some experience elsewhere.

"But our view on Joe has not changed.

"He is an outstanding 'keeper and we are pleased that he is a Manchester City player."
I like the sentiment, but this is fairly incredible. Unless Hart suddenly loses all interest in first team football I do not see how he will ever play for City again. The only way that Shay Given will not be our goalkeeper for the next four years (at least) is if he picks up his career ending injury. And if that happens he will be replaced with the best available alternative for big money. It's a shame, given how fond we all are of the young players. But with Given playing as he is I can't honestly say I wished it was different.

I believe that children our our future, teach them well and let them lead the way.

In the words of the late Whacko Jacko...

I think keeping Joe is a long term strategy. So we should keep him and if we have to let him play at other clubs with a view of one day becoming no 1 at the club.

If he wants to be City's eventual number 1 then he will stay and will be happy to get experience elsewhere....

Exactly. Hart knows where City are heading and that there's a strong possibility that he'll be our first choice keeper before he's 27, so it makes sense to stay with the club and go out on loan. It's the perfect arrangement for him, for City, for England.

But Given isn't that old. Is four consecutive seasons of football on loan for Joe Hart a good thing?

He'll be 37 by May 2014. Incredible though Given is, I reckon Joe Hart will be better by then. He's the best young keeper in the Premier League, despite what Beetroot says.

he's the best young English keeper. as much as I love Given, I was very sad when Hart was moved on. This is good news.

PAtrick, at the risk of being labelled a pedant, Michael Jackson did not write those song lyrics. They were written by Linda Creed and Michael Masser and was originally recorded by George Benson.

I think Jacko may have said something similar but with a different sentiment in mind

Two words: Whitney Housten.

Stephen,

Whitney may have recorded the song, but she wasn't the first. The song was written in the 1970's and featured in The Greatest, a movie about Muhammed Ali.

If memory serves, Witless Houston didn't record it until about 1985.
