SSN: £18m RSC fee agreed

Sky Sports News is reporting the same news that we read in this morning's Mail - that we've reached an agreement with Blackburn Rovers for a fee for Santa Cruz, of £18million. It's an awful lot of money for someone who's had one good season and has serious knee problems. It's also more money than ought to be spent on someone who won't start; suggesting that we won't get Eto'o and Tévez.

Not sure I agree on the one good season statement. He is a very different type of player than Eto, Tevez and certainly we need target man. Of course injury woul dbe the concern but I believe he had a op when he got injured last season to correct the problem.

The arthroscopy and wash out he had on his knee is unlikely to cure the problem. Hopefully it will mean he will have one or two injury free seasons but it is likely the problem will come back to haunt him. I'm sure the new doctor City have in place will be aware of this but I just see us having the same problem with him as we've had with Bellamy. 10-12 million with add ons for performances should be the price we paid to fat Sam.

It's an awful lot of money for a man with a poor scoring record and a history of injuries. Blackburn have done very, very well out of this.

That aside, the one thing that Santa Cruz does better than so many of the players we've had recently is hold up the ball. This alone makes an immediate improvement to our ability to keep possession away from home.

Agree with trinder. Also think this might be Hughes' definitive signing, he may live or die on this one.
