City start with a win

As you all know, City started their pre-season campaign last night with a 3-0 friendly win over Portland Timbers. The match was not available to watch online, (which fairly ruined my weekend), so I don't have any opinions or reflections.

Fortunately, you can watch it now courtesy of PortlandTimbers.com (embedded below.) I started to watch before realising that even I have marginally better things to do on a Sunday evening than this. Frankly, a game in which Jô plays is of faltering credibility and one in which he scores is wholly devoid of it. Stephen Ireland and Emmanuel Adebayor scored the other goals, apparently.

Like you I didnt watch the whole game but moved slider to the time of the first two goals, (just before half time). I know Irelands goal was a lucky deflection but neither goal was celebrated in any form whatsoever. I have never seen behaviour like this for two goals. I hope the uncertainty over the players' future is not destroying the team bonding process that normally accompanies a team on tour.

Thank you for posting this video, I was also disappointed to have missed the match as I am a City fan and enjoy watching them play.

Remember last year ? All the interest over the pre-season games and how the team were performing together.
So what's different now? Why the apathy ? What is wrong with you ? I can believe you're so apathetic and negative (actually, I can believe you are being negative).

I am delighted to see Jo play and score. Ireland's goal may have been lucky but it was a nice move and good assist from AJ. Ade's goal was pretty good, I thought. More flowing movement by AJ and slick linkup with Ade.

Come on, have a bit of enthusiasm.

Cheer up ! Look, there is a Russian woman waiting for you and City won 3-0. Yippee !!!

I didn't have anything better to do with my Sunday night.

The game was as you would expect, with 22 players getting a run out (different team each half). Bellamy was the best player on the pitch by my look, but it was hard to take much from it. I wouldn't put much in the lack of celebrations. They were player the Portland Timbers for God's sake. The Timbers play one level *below* MLS.

The second goal was off a perfect 45-yard ball to EA’s head. The keeper could have done a bit more on the play, but considering it was the first game of the year it was a promising bit of link-up.

I felt the club really came out strong last year because they were angry at all the “moneybags” criticism and motivated by the amount of people that were saying that they would fall on their face. I am a little worried that the same urgency won’t be there this year.
